Home School

Our goal and vision for home schooling is to provide our children with the one-on-one instruction (supplemented by other kinds as "field trips" and "support group/co-ops" allow) necessary to be a critical thinker, a creative thinker, an innovative thinker...A THINKING individual. We will encourage our children to have a passion for learning and a thrill for discovery! At this moment, we know that having the opportunity to teach Ian and Zoe at home is THE BEST opportunity for them to encounter and interact with the world in a way that builds their self-confidence and skills. We're not keeping them at home sheltered from the world...we're going to go there WITH them. What an amazing opportunity!

We want them to be seekers of the Truth in their lives, and live them fully. We will teach our children that the Truth CAN be known, and they can find it. We will teach them to be open-minded in situations, but be willing to stand for what they believe.

There is so much more I could write about what we want to teach them: That they should love everyone, live in the moment, admire the beauty around them, look both ways before crossing the street, and choose happiness!

We want them to not only fulfill academic standards, but develop and grow as a WHOLE person. This means education envelops the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. Learning isn't worksheets and tests, it's the process...it's the world around us.

Science, Math, Reading, Social Studies...these are labels for broken-down pieces of this world. Our home school makes no distinction, it's ALL connected. Life isn't fragments!

I'm so excited about this journey we are beginning, because it's not really about everything we're going to teach...it's about experiencing LIFE with our little ones as they grow.

I'm MOST excited because I know that the best position for learning is to teach. Ian, Zoe...I'm ready for my first lesson. Teach me. :)
